Job description
Bloom Education is seeking a Chief Accountant to lead a team of finance staff at its new Dubai Campus, which will house two premium branded P-12 schools (Brighton College and Dwight School) and a Centre of Excellence for Arabic Language, Culture and Arts. The Chief Accountant will lead the planning, implementation and oversight of financial procedures and processes; develop and present financial statements, and champion the effective financial management of the schools, its suppliers, and services.
The ideal candidate will have:
- More than 5 years of supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area
- A designation as a qualified Accountant
- Formal education in business with an emphasis in accounting
- Experience in cost accounting, industrial accounting and group consolidation procedures
- Proficiency with SAP, Microsoft Excel, Access and Word
- Experience implementing accounting processes in a new business unit is a major asset
- Experience working in the education industry
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Finance
- Supervise campus Accountants, Assistant Accountants, and Cashiers
- Compile the revenue and capital budget
- Maintain a standard set of accounting records/books and prepare annual accounts in accordance with International Accounting Standards
- Prepare and present periodic management reports
- Comply with standard accounting requirements such as bank reconciliation, confirmation of debtors and creditors and inter-company accounting
- Develop and implement policies and procedures with emphasis on internal controls
- Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Monitor spend against departmental budgets and regularly update senior management
Cash Management
- Effectively monitor working capital assets such as receivables
- Establish and maintain relationships with banks and service providers
- Manage the campus’ bank balances and keep track of postdated cheques and bank positions, initiate funds requisitions whenever necessary
General Management
- Participate in operational planning processes
- Collaborate with the other department managers to support overall goals and objectives
Reporting Lines
- Accountable to the Campus Head of Business Operations on day-to-day operational issues, compliance with Bloom policies and procedures, management reporting, budgetary control at departmental and school levels and cash management
- Functional reporting to the Bloom Education Financial Controller
